SCAVMA Bookstore
PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT TEXTBOOK INFORMATION!
Congratulations on your acceptance to veterinary school!! Our non-profit bookstore is owned by SCAVMA (Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association), and therefore, owned by the students. Any profits we do make are donated to the Iowa State SCAVMA Chapter for use towards speakers, travel to the annual symposium, and other student events. The staff of the SCAVMA Bookstore is made up entirely of veterinary students and we are here to serve the college community by providing books, notes, and supplies at approximately 10% below retail price. We normally stock the most commonly requested books and can order just about any other title at the same discounted price.
All semester book and supplies are pre-order. We are a non-profit organization with limited space and do not keep many copies of each book in stock. Therefore, if you want to be guaranteed to have books for the first two weeks of classes, you must pre-order by July 17th. Order forms are due IN the bookstore (not postmarked) by July 17th, so please plan accordingly when mailing. If you do not pre-order, we cannot guarantee that you will have any books for at least 2-3 weeks after the start of classes! You will find the book order form at http://www.vetmed.iastate.edu/vetzone, posted by June 19th. Then click under student information, SCAVMA Bookstore, and then click on “VM1 order form.” Please fill out the form online, do not print the form and fill it out by hand! The form is designed to total your order as you check the boxes. When you have selected all of the items that you would like to order, please mail your order and a check for either the full amount or a $50 deposit to:

You may also stop by during our normal business hours to turn the form in. We will be happy to answer any text book questions you may have.
If you order a book, you must buy it. Therefore, it is important to make your decisions very carefully. Ask the advice of your sophomore contact or other veterinary student on what textbooks are necessary. These people may even have a copy that you could borrow if you are unsure of whether or not to buy the book at this time. Additionally, all of the required textbooks are in the library on reserve. The bookstore has copies of most texts over the summer if you would like to look before you buy. We are open during the summer Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:00PM – 1:00 PM. We are located upstairs by the fish tank lobby, just across from the Biomedical Sciences office room # 2011.
All order forms are due by July 17th, 2009. During August orientation, there will be time scheduled for you to pick up your books. A lab coat listed on the order form will be in addition to the one purchased for you by the administration for the Class of 2013 White Coat Ceremony - please do not order an additional lab coat if you do not think you will need one. You will pick up your books and supplies during fall orientation. Please bring your checkbook/credit card (visa or mastercard) with you, as there will also be pre-printed class notes for you to purchase.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at vetbooks@iastate.edu. Thanks and good luck!

P.S. - There are many excellent veterinary titles that may be useful during this semester that are not required or recommended by the professors. We strongly recommend that you contact your sophomore contact or the bookstore before ordering your books.
*** The bookstore hires 2 students every fall. More information will soon follow. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership, business, and communication skills. The position also provides monetary compensation.
