Student Services Staff

Several support services and programs are offered to enhance the personal and professional development of veterinary students. Students may make appointments to see the counselors, staff, or associate dean on a walk-in basis. Below are those who make up the student services staff.

 

Brenda Cousins

Brenda Cousins is the full time secretary for the Office of Academic and Student Affairs located in room 2270. Brenda provides clerical support to the Office of Academic and Student Affairs staff, makes room reservations, travel arrangements, data entry and support for admissions, and maintains the online job board.

 

Monica Howard

Dr. Monica Howard, Director of Student Programs, is located in 2270B. Dr. Howard is responsible for recruitment and providing information about the profession of veterinary medicine to high school and undergraduate students. Dr. Howard is also in charge of the Faculty Contact Program at the college. She advises approximately 28 students of her own but also communicates with the other faculty contacts, students and faculty in the college and is ex-officio on the Admissions and Faculty Contact Committee. Dr. Howard teaches one of the Veterinarian in Society courses (Veterinary Ethics). She coordinates college tours and is a Notary Public. She also coordinates student international programs such as exchange visits and study abroad.

Kathy Kuehl is the full-time Admissions Coordinator in Room 2270E and provides professional-level support to the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs. Kathy consults with prospective students and their advisors concerning admissions procedures and requirements, conducts the objective review of all applicant files and consults with denied applicants. She works closely with the Admissions Committee to coordinate the yearly admission process. Kathy maintains information on scholarships, awards and outside educational opportunities as well as interacting with the Student Awards Committee and coordinating the student awards program.

 

 

Mindy Schminke

Mindy Schminke is the full-time Academic and Student Services record analyst in Room 2270A. Mindy maintains all academic records of veterinary students, student registration procedures and processes, scheduling classes/classrooms, maintaining degree audits, instructor evaluations and assists with graduation. She provides academic support as well as resume writing and job seeking skills. She also administers information about job opportunities and preceptorships for veterinary students. She assists students with licensing procedures for both national and state exams and certifies graduation credentials for both students and alumni. She is also a Notary Public.

Dr. Eldon Uhlenhopp serves as the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Outreach & Operations and provides administrative leadership for all veterinary student academic and extracurricular programs. He interacts with the staff of the Office of Academic and Student Affairs (OASA) and faculty committees in coordinating recruiting, admissions, academic standards, curriculum and assessment activities related to the academic programs of the college. He assists the OASA staff with student services activities including academic advising, career counseling, personal counseling, financial aid advising, international programs, job searches and various student organizational programs. The Office of Academic and Student Affairs serves as a communication link for students, faculty, and administration.
