Fall Orientation
SCAVMA
Iowa State University
College of Veterinary Medicine
May 8, 2012
Dear Incoming First Year UNL PPVM Veterinary Students,
On behalf of the Iowa State University Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association, I would like to congratulate and welcome you to the College of Veterinary Medicine. The next four years will be incredibly challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. You are about to enter an amazing program and career. I am pleased to welcome you to the Class of 2016.
The Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA) is an extremely active organization that represents veterinary students and their interests both locally and nationally. We strive to enhance your veterinary education through opportunities at Iowa State and beyond. I encourage you, as a student of the College of Veterinary Medicine, to become an active member of our SCAVMA chapter.
In an effort to prepare you for the beginning of your Veterinary education at Iowa State, SCAVMA is co-sponsoring, with the college administration, an orientation program that is required for first-year students. Required ISU orientation for UNL PPVM students will take place Friday, August 17th, 2012 at the College of Veterinary Medicine. This program is in addition to your Orientation at UNL and will introduce you to the SCAVMA chapter and its activities, the College administration and faculty, and the many other organizations that are active at Iowa State. Most importantly it will help you start your life as a veterinary student. You will hear the Dean speak about the school and the profession, learn about the White Coat Ceremony, meet your Sophomore contact, and meet your future classmates! This program will be packed with valuable information so put this mandatory event on your calendar today. Plus, we’ll have some fun along the way. On Thursday afternoon, August 16th, you are invited to attend the SCAVMA Team-building activities and get to know your classmates better. Thursday afternoon is optional, but we encourage you to attend. On Thursday evening there will be a picnic to allow you to mingle with classmates, students, and faculty. Parents, spouses, children, and significant others are encouraged to attend this picnic. The picnic is also optional.
When you RSVP to the link below please note the two additional questions for UNL PPVM students asking about Team-building attendance and housing for the night of August 16th.
Congratulations again on being chosen as a member of the Class of 2016! We hope you are looking forward to a challenging and fun four years at UNL and Iowa State. If we can help you in any way or answer any questions before school begins, please feel free to contact us. A tentative agenda for Fall Orientation is on the Class of 2016 website. Enjoy the rest of the summer and we’ll see you August 16th or 17th!
Sincerely,
Cara Haden, VM3
SCAVMA President
