Transfer Admissions

Veterinary medical students wishing to transfer to Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine (ISU-CVM) are considered on a case-by-case basis. The transfer applicant must have been in good standing throughout their entire period of enrollment in their current college of veterinary medicine. Students who have been dismissed for academic or disciplinary reasons are not eligible to transfer.

Transfer applicants must have completed similar undergraduate prerequisite courses as required by ISU-CVM and the curriculum at the veterinary school where they are currently enrolled must be comparable to that of ISU-CVM. If the transfer applicant is from an AVMA-listed (non-AVMA accredited) college of veterinary medicine, the applicant must be in the upper one-third of their class. In addition, there must be sufficient space available in the class the applicant wishes to and is qualified to enter. The applicant must also be available for a personal interview if requested.

The following steps must be followed to request transfer to the ISU-CVM.

  1. Complete the transfer application.

  5. Non-native English speakers must present a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 600 (PBT) or 250 (CBT) at the time of application. Additional requirements such as demonstration of proficiency in the English language and communication skills may be required.
  6. The Dean or Associate Dean of the student’s current veterinary medical college must write a letter indicating that the applicant has been in good standing throughout their entire enrollment at the college. If the student is from an AVMA-listed (non-AVMA accredited) college of veterinary medicine, this letter must also include the student’s ranking in their current class.
  7. Three letters of recommendation must be received.
  8. An $80.00 processing fee is required for US citizens and immigrants.  A $100.00 processing fee is required for international students. Make checks payable to Iowa State University and send to the CVM Admissions address above.
