Antibiotic milk panel
The antibiotics milk panel includes multiple classes of antibiotics, several NSAID's, and some anthelmentic drugs for a total of 41 drugs in the panel. Drug residues are extracted into acetonitrile and cleaned up by solid phase extraction (SPE). Drug residues are then measured by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Among the classes of drugs measured are 4 beta-lactams (penicillins), 2 cephlasporins (plus 2 ceftiofur metabolites), 4 tetracyclines, 8 sulfonamides, 4 macrolides, 2 lincosamides, 2 phenicols, and several other compounds including flunixin, a flunixin metabolite, meloxicam, tripelennamine, and ractopamine. The drug panel also includes anthelmintic drugs such as thiabenzadole and 3 macrocyclic lactones (e.g. ivermectin). The assay is sensitive to less than 1 ppb (ng/g) for the majority of drugs in the panel with a limit of quantitation of 0.5 ng/g for most of the drugs and 0.1 ng/g for drugs such as flunixin, meloxicam, ractopamine, and tripelennamine.
