Equine Anesthesia for the Veterinary Technician

The purpose of this program is to aid veterinary technicians in the area of equine anesthesia. At the completion of the seminar, it is anticipated participants will be able to identify and calculate appropriate anesthetic protocols for both field and in-hospital situations, identify and calculate different sedation protocols as well as have an increased familiarity with common sedatives, calculate and identify appropriate fluid therapy, correctly place and interpret common monitoring equipment, and prepare for a blood transfusion. The wetlab will include an opportunity to place intravenous and intra-arterial catheters for purposes of fluid administration and blood pressure monitoring, connect and interpret normal ECG tracings, refine orotracheal and nasotracheal tube placement, and observe induction and recovery periods. This event has been approved by the Iowa Board of Veterinary Medicine for 8 CE hours.
