Vet Med Open House - Free Admission - Public Invited
The College of Veterinary Medicine opens its doors to the public on Saturday, April 20, from 11 am to 3 p.m. Adults and children of all ages are invited to the events and actitivies that will be held including:
Petting Zoo
Exotic Pet Expo
Tours of the Large and Small Animal Hospitals
Activities/Exhibits
Prospective Student Seminar where Vet Med representatives will expain the college's admissions process. Register here.
Canine Massage where veterinary students from the Integrative Medicine Club will demonstrate massage techiques as well as explaining the nutritional components of feed tags/labels.
A mobile veterinary truck and animal transport vehicle will be available for visitors to see how they are equipped. Both are fully functioning veterinary vehicles used every day.
Wildlife Care Clinic volunteers will share information concerning Iowa's native species. Several birds/raptors will be presented.
Neuroscience is Fun -- Brain training stations including: 1) brain coloring (color images of brains and brain regions), 2) brain hat creation station (participants will be able to cut out and tape a brain hat to fit their head), 3) brain species comparison (participants will be able to guess which brain belongs to a horse, cow, dog, and human, questions about brain regions will be answered by staff). 4) brain cap drawing station [participants will create aluminum foil caps for their friends, they will then write in were different brain regions are located (e.g., vision, motor, sensory, auditory, emotion, personality, higher order thinking)].
