    The Stange Award is the highest recognition given to ISU veterinary alumni. It recognizes outstanding professional achievements in education, government, industry, practice or other professional endeavors in veterinary medicine.

    Hans Rotto, DVM, received the Science with Practice Award from Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. The award, presented at the 20th Annual Swine Diseases Conference in Ames, Iowa, Nov. 8-9, recognizes exemplary integration of science and the art of veterinary practice to benefit swine productivity and welfare.

    AMES, Iowa – Rodney “Butch” Baker, DVM, has been appointed interim director of the Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) at Iowa State University. He replaces John Mabry, PhD, who served as the center’s director since 2000. Dr. Baker’s two-year appointment will end June 30, 2014.

    AMES, Iowa – Michael Merzenich, a leading pioneer in the study of brain plasticity, will deliver a special lecture on Monday, Nov. 12, on “Rewiring the Brain.” The lecture will be held in the Great Hall, Memorial Union at 8 p.m.

    Four alumni of the College of Veterinary Medicine were honored this weekend, as part of the college’s Homecoming activities. Recipients of the Stange Award for Meritorious Service and the Switzer Award in Veterinary Medicine were recognized at an all-college breakfast at the Gateway Hotel, and later at the university awards ceremony at Scheman Building.
