AMES, Iowa – The deep-fried Twinkies and corn dogs will have to wait. As the veterinarian for the Iowa State Fair, Dr. Bruce Leuschen won’t have much down time as he oversees the health care for approximately 15,000 animals during the 11 days of the fair plus several pre-fair days.

Dr. David Whitley, board-certified ophthamologist at Iowa State University's Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center, is featured in this week's Genome Barks podcast produced by the American Kennel Club's Canine Health Foundation. In the podcast, the AKC and Dr. Whitley discuss the Canine Eye Registration Foundation, what the exam entails, why participating in the CERF registry is important for breeders and owners, and what some of the most common eye diseases are in the dog.

AMES, Iowa – Dr. Matthew Madron will give a free seminar on colic in the horse on Tuesday, August 3, at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. The seminar, open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the college’s Alumni Room located in the main building.

AMES, Iowa – Veterinary students hosted a free rabies vaccination clinic for pet owners at the Meskwaki tribal settlement in Tama, Iowa, last month, vaccinating 48 dogs and four cats. Vaccinating the pets though was only part of the mission.
