    Dr. Butch BakerDr. Rodney “Butch” Baker, Ames, Iowa, was installed as the 40th president of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians during the association’s annual meeting in Dallas, Texas, March 10. Dr. Baker is a senior clinician in the Food Supply Veterinary Medicine Unit at Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
     
  • 3/4 VMC Ophthalmologist expands specialty services at ISU Veterinary Medical Center

    Ames, Iowa – Dr. Robert David Whitley, DVM, MS, a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist, has joined the faculty at the Dr. W. Eugene and Linda Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) at Iowa State University. He is the second board-certified ophthalmologist on staff and was hired to meet an increased demand in specialty eye care for pets.

     AMES, Iowa -- Two researchers in the Iowa Center for Advanced Neurotoxicology (ICAN) at Iowa State University have received awards totaling more than $4 million from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The awards represent innovative approaches to funding biomedical research in Parkinson's Disease by NINDS.

  • 12/19 Iowa State veterinary medicine students excel in animal welfare judging and assessment

    AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University veterinary medicine students took high honors at the Animal Welfare Judging and Assessment Competition recently. ISU-UNL second-year student Jennafer Glaesemann, Fairbury, Neb., placed first in the individual competition, and Iowa State's team placed second in the veterinary college competition.

    AMES, Iowa -- Next month, when Dr. Nani Ghoshal retires after almost a half century of teaching at Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, he will leave his office for the last time.

    But through the many students he has taught, his legacy at the college will go on for many years.

    Ghoshal estimates that he has taught anatomy and other subjects to almost 5,000 students since he arrived at ISU in 1963. His students have gone on to practice veterinary medicine and other occupations in all of Iowa's 99 counties, most U.S. states and several foreign countries.
