The Animal Behavior and Welfare Research Group (ABWRG) holds meetings on the first and third Tuesday of the month in the Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM) conference room (2215) within the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center at Iowa State University. Faculty and students present on different research areas, usually pertaining to their species of interest and related to their current research questions. The meetings are affectionately referred to as journal club, and presenters lead discussions in current research methods and results, highlighting areas of sound research as well as areas of potential improvement. This is a valuable teaching and learning experience, allowing new professionals to practice public speaking and group facilitation, while also educating their peers on animal behavior and welfare research. ISU CVM veterinarians and professors, as well as veterinary, graduate, and undergraduate students are welcome to attend these discussions. Both small and large animal species are discussed.
