Dr. Thoen conducts investigations on the pathogenesis of Mycobacterium bovis, M. tuberculosis, M. avium ss paratuberculosis, M. avium ss avium and M. avium ss intracellulare in domestic and captive wild animals. The focus of research is to provide an improved understanding of host immune responses that can be used in developing more reliable in vivo and in vitro diagnostic tests.
