Expertise / Research Area

The main interest of our laboratory is in the areas of innate immunology and diseases of aquatic organisms, but we also perform research in mammalian and bird innate immunology, as well as aquatic ecosystem health. Some of current and past research projects include: dietary immunomodulation of β-glucans and yeast compounds in fish; neutrophil extracellular trap formation in fish, birds and mammals; heterophil function in chickens exposed to Salmonella enteritidis infection; effects of tulathromycin on bovine neutrophils; development of GFP transgenic zebrafish neutrophil research model and it’s applications in information-rich in vivo imaging; effects of field runoff on neutrophil function in fish and development of GIS flow path analysis model; and stress effects on immunology of fish species of special concern. I am also a member of the teams working on development of the National Veterinary Accreditation Program education modules for aquatic animals, and veterinary aquaculture biosecurity certification.
