Dear Members of the CVM Community,
The senseless killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery make me sad, frustrated and angry. Coming from a place of white privilege, I am often ignorant of the reality for those that do not share my privilege. Although I have committed to learning more about what I do not know, I acknowledge this lack of awareness. However, this does not lessen my conviction that there is no place in this world for hatred and racism. It saddens me to see how these events are affecting my friends and family. I am also troubled as I know there are members of our CVM community, faculty, staff and students, who are really hurting because of these events. As we navigate this difficult time I ask that we all work to provide a caring and supporting community for each other. I urge all of us to reaffirm our obligation to our Principles of Community and strive to build and maintain a culture and climate based on mutual respect and caring. I also ask that you read President Wintersteen’s message from May 29 as it too reaffirms the commitment of the entire ISU community to these principles.
Stay safe and healthy!
