Dr. Amanda Fales-Williams, Morrill Professor, Tyrone D. Artz, M.C. Chair for Teaching Excellence, and chair of the Department of Veterinary Pathology, is the 2025 College of Veterinary Medicine recipient of the American Association of Veterinary Medicine Colleges (AAVMC) Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award.
Fales-Williams is now eligible for the national AAVMC Distinguished Teacher Award which will be announced in the spring of 2026.
Fales-Williams is unique in teaching, she not only introduces all first-year veterinary students to the foundations of pathology, but she also works with fourth-year students in necropsy rotations where they put everything they learned into practice.
A faculty member in the College of Veterinary Medicine since 1995, Fales-Williams is instructor-in-charge of two core courses in the Department of Veterinary Pathology and is coordinator of the department’s anatomic residency program.
She is the past recipient of several awards including the ISU Award for Early Achievement in Teaching, the ISU Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching, the ISU Award for Early Achievement in Departmental Leadership, and the Dr. William O. Reese Award for Outstanding Advising in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
In 2022, Fales-Williams was named a Morrill Professor at Iowa State University which recognizes faculty members whose professional work has demonstrated outstanding success in teaching and learning which is reflected by a national or international reputation in the nominee’s discipline.
Fales-Williams is also the past president of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association.
