Interim Chairs Named for Two CVM Academic Departments

Two faculty members have been named interim chairs of College of Veterinary Medicine academic departments.

Dr. Michael Kimber, professor, has been named interim chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, effective Oct. 14. Kimber has been a faculty member at Iowa State University since 2006. He is the recipient of the college's Mid-Career Achievement in Research Award and his research focus is on neuromuscular biology of parasitic worms. He looks at the role played by small molecule transmitters in an effort to identify novel targets for antiparasitic drugs.
NOTE: Dr. Kimber has now been named chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Cathy Miller, professor and interim assistant dean for graduate study and research training, has been named interim chair of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine effective Jan. 1, 2020. A College of Veterinary Medicine faculty member since 2006, Miller has served the past two years as the interim assistant dean for graduate study and research training. She is the recipient of the college's Mid-Career Achievement in Research Award as she researches the interface between viruses and the cells they infect.
