Past Experience
After graduating with her DVM, Dr. Hughes completed an equine rotating internship at the New England Equine Medical and Surgical Center in New Hampshire. She also did a large animal internal medicine residency at the University of Minnesota.

Specialty Area
A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal), Dr. Hughes has interest areas in neonatal care, endocrine disease and gastrointestinal disease. In her new role, she will bring advanced diagnostics and treatments to horses both in the field and the hospital setting through clinical care in Equine Field Service and the Equine Internal Medicine Service.

Interesting Fact
Dr. Hughes is currently finishing a PhD at the University of Minnesota. Her focus is on equine genetics and is scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2026.

Dr. Hughes says…
“I have always had a passion for working alongside horse owners to solve complex problems to preserve the quality of life of their beloved companions. Internal medicine spans from the critical neonatal period into the senior years and I enjoy the challenging balancing act of preventive care, triaging acute illnesses and managing chronic health conditions.”
