Uhl Recipient of CVM Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award

Dr. Lisa Uhl, clinical assistant professor of veterinary pathology, is the 2026 College of Veterinary Medicine recipient of the Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award.

Uhl is now eligible for the national American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) Distinguished Teacher Award which will be announced in the spring of 2027.

As an instructor in anatomic pathology, Uhl is an engaging, encouraging and motivating classroom instructor. Her excitement for pathology is readily recognizable to the students which translates into higher levels of comprehension.

“I enjoy teaching because it feels like I can make a difference on a much larger scale,” Uhl said. “I’ll never personally treat as many animals as the students I teach over the course of their careers. The 130 veterinary students I instruct will go on to care for thousands of animals and work with countless clients throughout the careers.”

Uhl graduated from Iowa State with a DVM in 2018. After graduation she completed a small animal rotating internship and one year of a comparative ophthalmology residency at Colorado State.

She returned to Iowa State for an anatomic pathology residency and joined the College of Veterinary Medicine faculty after completing that residency. In this role, she serves as residency training coordinator for six anatomic pathology residents.

“I was fortunate to have mentors who helped me accomplish things I never thought were possible,” Uhl said. “Teaching is a chance for me to pay that forward.
