Dr. Wendy Ware, professor emerita in Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Lee & Inge Pyle Service Award by the American College of Veterinary Medicine (ACVIM).

Ware was recognized for her record of outstanding and dedicated service in a volunteer capacity to the ACVIM. Her record of service to the ACVIM is extensive having served on over 15 committees and task forces, including her time as chair of the Cardiology Examination Committee and the Cardiology Forum Subcommittee. She also served as the organization’s vice president, president-elect, president and chair.

Ware was a board-certified cardiologist in Iowa State’s Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital before retiring. She was the hospital’s sole cardiologist for a number of years and is credited with single-handedly educating generations of veterinary students in cardiology and making the subject more accessible through her writing, particularly with the publication of her textbook, Cardiovascular Disease in Small Animal Medicine.
