\tThe Dr. W. Eugene and Linda Lloyd Veterinary Medicine Center at Iowa State University will reach another construction milestone on Tuesday, July 19, when the new Small Animal Hospital entry will be operational. The entry, client reception and waiting areas will be the most visible and striking changes to the newly renovated areas of the hospital. These areas have been designed with a focus on client comfort and patient care. The reception area is much larger and provides a more comfortable working environment and will allow greater efficiency for client and patient processing.<\/p>\n

\tAlthough the construction project won’t be completed until fall of 2012, the following areas have been completed:<\/p>\n

* New entry with artwork and species-specific waiting areas
\n\t* Twenty-two exam rooms, more than doubling the previous number
\n\t* Dedicated treatment rooms for the veterinary specialty sections
\n\t* State-of-the-art Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine Unit
\n\t* Patient-focus wards with increased cage space and outside K9 turf grass that is close by and easily accessible
\n\t* Teaching rounds rooms to facilitate student learning<\/p>\n

\tOverall, the newly constructed areas of the Small Animal Hospital will allow ease of movement throughout the hospital to better serve our clients, patients and referring veterinarians.<\/p>\n

\tWe will celebrate the opening of these areas this week with a variety of events. We will recognize our “honorary first patient” on Tuesday morning.
