{"id":6813,"date":"2022-08-18T12:45:02","date_gmt":"2022-08-18T17:45:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vetmed.iastate.edu\/article-v2\/cvm-to-celebrate-frederick-douglass-patterson-centennial\/"},"modified":"2025-07-08T08:02:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T13:02:12","slug":"cvm-to-celebrate-frederick-douglass-patterson-centennial","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/vetmed.iastate.edu\/article\/cvm-to-celebrate-frederick-douglass-patterson-centennial\/","title":{"rendered":"CVM to Celebrate Frederick Douglass Patterson Centennial"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n<div\n\tclass=\"paragraph-widget paragraph-widget--text-html\">\n\t<div class=\"text-content\">\n\t\t<p><strong>August 18, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the 2022-23 academic year, the College of Veterinary Medicine will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the graduation of one of its most distinguished graduates.\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; width: 225px; height: 192px;\" src=\"https:\/\/vetmed.iastate.edu\/article-v2\/wp-content\/uploads\/3aaf9099-5154-37dd-4e09-a9a4b41b9e55-5.jpg \" alt=\"Patterson Centennial Seal\" data-file-id=\"3481086\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Frederick Douglass Patterson graduated from Iowa State in 1923 with his DVM and later became president of\u00a0 the Tuskegee Institute where he founded the school&#8217;s College of Veterinary Medicine and was instrumental in the famous Tuskegee Airmen in World War II.<\/p>\n<p>Patterson also founded the United Negro College Fund and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.<\/p>\n<p>The celebration will begin with a noon time celebration and lecture by Brad Kuennen &#8211; &#8220;Frederick Douglass Patterson: A Life Well-Lived&#8221; &#8211; Monday, August 22, in the Ramsey Classroom (VM 2532).<\/p>\n<p>A second event will occur Wednesday, September 14, during the CVM Convocation. Dr. Tara Grinnage-Pulley (DVM &#8217;09 &amp; PhD &#8217;13), will present the Convocation keynote address.
