CVM Face Coverings Update

May 20, 2021

Dear CVM Community,

Board of Regents (BOR) Communication issued earlier today lifted the State of Emergency established by the BOR on March 18, 2020 and, established, among other things, that “faculty, staff, students, and visitors to campus will not be required to wear a mask or other face covering.”

Similarly, the statement established that “Effective immediately, classrooms and other campus spaces will operate at their normal (pre-pandemic) capacity. Faculty, staff, students, and visitors to campus will not be required to maintain physical distancing.”

In both cases, healthcare operations, including “veterinary medicine facilities” were listed as exceptions. These exceptions have been clarified as follows. Masks and physical distancing are required in clinical settings, including CVM, only in those areas that would normally require such measures (e.g. masks in surgery). Neither masks nor physical distancing can be required in the waiting room, exam rooms, hallways, meeting rooms, rounds rooms, classrooms, labs, personal offices, or any other location where they would not have been required prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
