Dr. Tara C. Smith
Kent State University College of Public Health
Dr. Tara Smith is an associate professor at Kent State University College of Public Health. An Ohio native, she previously spent nine years in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Iowa, where she directed the College of Public Health’s Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases. She obtained her PhD at the University of Toledo, and her BS from Yale University.
Dr. Smith’s research focuses on zoonotic infections. She was the first to identify livestock-associated strains of methicillin-resistant Staphlococcus aureus (MRSA) in the United States.
