Scholarships

College of Veterinary Medicine scholarships are presented to students based on financial need, academic achievement, field of interest, or other criteria.  

All Creatures Great and Small Veterinary Scholarship - $1000
Established by Dr. Gary Friederich to help support a hard working student who shows great promise in the profession but whose academic performance is average (GPA between 2.00 and 3.00).

Dr. Lee Allenstein Scholarship in Bovine Medicine - $1000
Established in 2008 by Scott and Nancy Armbrust to recognize Dr. Allenstein for his efforts in the profession and as a graduate of Iowa State. Based on a demonstrated interest in the dairy industry and bovine medicine; demonstrated commitment to excellence and financial need.

Beverley G. Anderson Scholarship - $2000
Established in 2014 by Beverley G. Anderson to help support veterinary medicine students interested in food animal medicine.

The Elfriede Apteker Scholarship for Veterinary Medicine - $7000
Established in 1984 by Mrs. Elfriede Apteker because of her respect for Dr. Gilbert Okey (ISU '58), small animal practitioner, Hillside, IL. Based on financial need and a sincere concern for the welfare of animals.

Willis and Delores Armbrust Veterinary Medicine Scholarship - $1500
Established in 2008 by Scott and Nancy Armbrust. Given to a Nebraska student participating in the ISU-UNL Cooperative Program. Based on achievement and interest in bovine production medicine.

AVMA PLIT Student Scholarship - $2850
Established in 2012 by AVMA PLIT. Based on demonstrated financial need and continuous membership in SCAVMA.

William W. Bailey Scholarship - $4500
Established in 1997. Based on merit and demonstrated financial need. Given to an Iowa resident and two non-resident students.

Dr. and Mrs. William G. Bauman Memorial Scholarship - $4500
Established in 1991 in memory of the Baumans (ISU '40) of Barrington, Illinois. Based on high ethical standards, leadership, primary interest in bovine or equine medicine and surgery, academic performance and recommendations of clinical faculty.

Stan Benbrook Scholarship - $1100
Established in 2014 by Stan C. Benbrook to support students in the College of Veterinary Medicine who have demonstrated financial need.

William and Elise Brett Veterinary Medicine Scholarship - $2500
Established in 2014 by the Elise A. Brett Trust. Given to a student pursuing the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. 

Kenneth L. Bullis Scholarship for Excellence - $2200
Established in 1983 by Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth L. Bullis (ISU '28). Based on academic achievement and interest in avian medicine, particularly pet birds.

Robert Buzzetti Veterinary Scholarship - $2000
Established in 1998 by Dr. Robert C. Buzzetti. Awarded to a male student in his second, third, or fourth year in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Based on financial need and special achievement in small animal medicine.

George W. Catt Memorial Scholarship - $500
Established in 1947. Based on scholarship and financial need to partially relieve the need for self support and allow for participation in worthwhile activities.

H. L. Chatterton Memorial Scholarship - $750
Established in 1981 by Hilah M. Chatterton Wolf in memory of her father, Dr. H. L. Chatterton (ISU 1886). Based on need leadership, and competence.

Dr. George C. Christensen Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $1900
Established in 2013 by Dr. George C. Christensen to help deserving students who are attracted to careers in academic veterinary medicine to become the profession's future teachers and research scientists. Recipient must have an interest in academic veterinary medicine and a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above.

Janice M. Clark Memorial Scholarship - $100
Established in 1981. Based on financial need and interest in the care of small animals. Preference given to Iowa residents.

Class of 1961/Merrill B. Anderson Scholarship - $1500
Established by classmates (Class of 1961) of Merrill B. Anderson in 2004. Based on demonstrated financial need with preference given to married students.

College of Veterinary Medicine Endowed Scholarship Fund Scholarship - $1200
Established in 1981 by the College of Veterinary Medicine. Based on academic performance and financial need.

College of Veterinary Medicine Endowment Fund Academic Excellence Awards 
Established in 1981 by the College of Veterinary Medicine Endowment Fund. Based on exemplary academic performance. Students must have taken all fall semester required courses.

College of Veterinary Medicine Endowment Fund Financial Need Award - $1000
Established in 1982 by the College of Veterinary Medicine Endowment Fund for students with financial need.

College of Veterinary Medicine Mentoring Scholarship - $1250
This scholarship was established in 2014 to honor Dr. Beenken and other practicing veterinarians who serve an important role as mentors and give students the ability to explore the veterinary profession and gain hands-on experience.

College of Veterinary Medicine Scholarships Fund Financial Need Award - $2000
Established in 1999 by annual, unrestricted gifts to the College's general scholarship fund. Awards are presented each year support is provided.

College of Veterinary Medicine Service Award - $1000
Nominated by classmates on the basis of time and effort in service to their class. Service to SCAVMA, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the profession and the community are also considered.

G. W. and Peg Cornwell Scholarship - $8000
Established in 1997 by G. W. and Phyllis “Peg” Cornwell. Based on demonstrated financial need. Awarded to Iowa residents.

George and Bonnie Dennis Family Scholarship - $750
Established in 1995 by Dr. and Mrs. George L. Dennis (ISU’68). Awarded to a student who has given his/her time and efforts to better the educational experience or student life at the College of Veterinary Medicine without the intention of gaining any personal returns. Preference is given to student athletes or residents of Iowa or Nebraska.

Dr. C. A. DeValois Memorial Scholarship - $500
Established in 2002 by Donald DeValois in honor of his father, Dr. C. A. DeValois,to support students with a rural or agricultural background.

William Tillman Dunn Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $7500
Established in 1995 as the result of the professional contributions made by Dr. Dunn as recognized by Mrs. Homozel Mickel Daniel through her estate. Based on exceptional academic capability, high moral character, exemplary interpersonal and written communication skills, leadership ability and the potential for making a positive impact in the profession after graduation.

Eastern Iowa Veterinary Association Scholarship - $750
Established in 2000 by the Eastern Iowa Veterinary Association. Awarded to a full-time student from eastern Iowa who demonstrates good professional conduct and good character with an interest in general practice and who is actively engaged in college activities.

Floris M. and David R. Ertl Scholarship Fund - $8000
Established in 2004 by Floris M. and David R. Ertl. Awarded to a student entering their third year of veterinary school.

Dr. Roger and Marie Feldman Scholarship - $2000
Established in 2007 by Dr. Roger G. Feldman and based on strong academic achievement, diverse involvement in academic and non-academic activities and demonstrated leadership ability.

Eric Fleming Memorial Scholarship - $1000
Established in 1999 by Dr. Mark W. and Laurel L. Fleming. Based on an interest in small animal medicine, academic achievement, financial need and leadership.

Robert Edwin Gamble, D.V.M. Scholarship - $1000
Established by Dr. Robert Edwin Gamble, an Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine graduate, to recognize outstanding students in their final year of veterinary studies. 

Charles Gardner Memorial Scholarship - $2000
Established in 1992 by Mrs. Mary Ann Gardner, family, friends and colleagues in honor of Dr. Charles Gardner (ISU ‘53). Based on combination of financial need and scholarship. Cumulative GPA of 2.80 or above. 

Marjorie E. Greene Memorial Scholarship - $1000
Established in 1990 by attorney, Thomas D. Lonergan and Trustee, Rodney C. Schroeder for the Marjorie E. Greene Estate. Based on integrity, leadership and financial need. Preference will be given to veterinary students from Clinton and Shenandoah, Iowa.

John and Sally Greve Scholarship - $2000
Established in 1998 by Dr. John and Sally Greve. Award is given to a non-resident student with demonstrated financial need.

Dr. Harry M. Halverson Memorial Scholarship - $500
Established in 1989 by Mrs. Edna M. Halverson (BS ISU ’36) in memory of Dr. Harry Halverson (ISU ‘36). Based on scholarship, need and interest in general practice. Preference to South Dakota students.

John and Carolyn Haupert Veterinary Scholarship - $1800
Established in 1999 by Dr. John C. and Carolyn Haupert. Award is given to a student from eastern Iowa with an interest in large animal practice and demonstrated financial need.

Dr. Isaac (Ike) E. Hayes (ISU’37) Memorial Scholarship - $1500
Established in 1992 by Dr. R. J. Gibbs (ISU '44) and colleagues. Based on financial need, integrity, and definite interest in mixed animal practice. Recipient will be encouraged to read biographical information of Dr. Hayes.

Dr. Howard T. Hill Swine Medicine Award - $750
Established in 1995 by Dr. Howard T. Hill. Based on interest in pursuing swine medicine as a career.

Steven M. Hopkins, D.V.M. Scholarship - $1000
This scholarship was established in 2013 by Janice M. Hopkins in memory of her husband, Steven M. Hopkins, D.V.M., professor of theoriogenology in the College of Veterinary Medicine from 1981-2012, in honor of his love of teaching and interacting with his students on a more personal level.

Howes Family Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2015 by Dr. Edward J. Howes, a 1962 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. It is based on a focus in large or mixed animal medicine and demonstrated financial need.

Hutton International Veterinary Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2007 by Norman and Shirley Hutton to help veterinary students gain an increased perspective of the global aspects of veterinary medicine through experiences in a country outside of North America. Given to a student with a demonstrated interest in international veterinary medicine.

Oris P. Idsvoog Memorial Award - $1000
Established in 1969 in memory of Oris P. Idsvoog (ISU '43). Based on integrity, interest in large animal medicine and surgery, scholastic aptitude and need. Residents of North Dakota and Wisconsin are given preference.

Iowa Farmer Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $1000
Established in 2015 by a family from the Veterinary Medicine Class of 1966 who wish to support the diagnosis and care delivered to farm animals by supporting training in production animal medicine for veterinary students at Iowa State University.

Iowa State University SCAVMA Auxiliary Award - $50 SCAVMA Bookstore Gift Certificate
Established in 1978 by the SCAVMA Auxiliary. Based on financial need and awarded to a VM1, VM2 and VM3 student whose spouse is an auxiliary member in good standing. 

IVMA Foundation Freshman Scholarship - $1500
Established in 2008 by the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and is renewable for 3 additional years. The scholarship is a tool to recognize an outstanding student who might, without the scholarship, matriculate at another veterinary college.

IVMA Foundation Sports & Field Day Community Engagement Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2016 by the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Foundation. The scholarship is based on experience and engagement in each of the following areas: bovine, companion animal, equine and swine.

IVMA Foundation Supporting Leadership Scholarship
Established by the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Foundation. Given to a student who is an officer in a student club or organization and who shows evidence of communication involvement - service outside the realm of veterinary medicine.

Margaret Florence Johnson Memorial Scholarship - $1500
Established in 1998 by Dr. Rhonda and Clifton "Buck" Johnson in memory of Margaret Florence Johnson. Awarded to a female student with interest in a career in small animal medicine.

Mildred M. Johnson and Ruth M. Stewart Memorial Scholarship - $15,000
Established in 2004 by the estate of Ruth M. Stewart. Based on demonstrated financial need. This scholarship may be renewed providing the student remains in good standing.

Patricia A. Kasowski Scholarship for Veterinary Medicine - $2500
Established in 1997 by Marilyn D. Scholl. Based on merit and demonstrated financial need. This award is renewed annually providing the student remains in good standing.

Dr. J. Richard and Linda K. Kennedy Family Veterinary Scholarship - $2500
Established in 2009 by Dr. J. Richard Kennedy. Based on interest in large animal or production animal medicine. Preference is given to students from eastern Iowa or those who wish to practice in eastern Iowa.

The Terry B. Kislingbury Prize - $50 SCAVMA Bookstore Gift Certificate
Established in 1982 by Mrs. Alice Black in acknowledgement and appreciation of Dr. Kislingbury's (ISU '67) professional skills and his compassion for his patients.

Krichel Father and Son Scholarship - $1000
Established in 1982 by Drs. Joseph Krichel, Jr. (ISU '57) and Joseph Krichel, Sr. (CVC '16) for students with financial need.

Joe and Isabelle Krichel SCAVMA President Scholarship - $750
Established in 2009 by Joe and Isabelle Krichel to recognize the importance of volunteer leadership as a student within the profession of veterinary medicine. This scholarship is to benefit the president of the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Arthur B. and Blanche F. Lederer Memorial Award - $1000
Established in 2008 by Dr. Herbert A. Lederer (ISU '58) in memory of his father and mother. Awarded to a student with an interest in companion animal medicine and who has high moral character as demonstrated by leadership, responsibility, trustworthiness and caring attitude both inside and outside the classroom.

Darold A. Lodge Endowed Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $7500
Established through a bequest from Darold A. Lodge to provide scholarships for students in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Awarded to a second-year student with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above. Renewable in the VM3 year if a cumulative GPA of 3.00 is maintained.

Marie S. Lodge Endowment in Veterinary Medicine Scholarship
Established through a bequest from Marie S. Lodge through the Marie S. Lodge Trust to provide scholarships for students in the College of Veterinary Medicine. 

Dr. Bryan F. Lott Memorial Scholarship - $1250
Established in 2010 by the Lott family as a tribute to Bryan and his wife Ruth M. Lott who started and who have given so much to the education of their children and grandchildren. The scholarship is given to an entering fourth-year student who is participating in the Cooperative Program in Veterinary Education with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and who intend to practice in Nebraska following graduation.

Mayfield/Anderson Scholarship - $2115
Established in 2016 and based on demonstrated financial need.

Maggie's Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $1800
Established in 2000 by Karen Shaff and Steven Jayne to recognize the wonderful care and support they received from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, for their beloved companion, Maggie. In particular, they wish to mention Dr. Elizabeth Goldman and Dr. Dena Franklin, a third-year student at the time of Maggie’s care. Based on demonstrated financial need an an interest in small animal medicine.

Dr. Hugo Medina Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2013 in memory of Dr. Hugo Medina. Awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need with a primary preference to a student interested in poultry medicine and a secondary preference of a student from an underrepresented group.

Dr. Paul J. and Sara J. Meginnis Scholarship - $2375
Established in 2014 by Paul Meginnis, II in memory of his parents, Paul J. Meginnis, D.V.M. '31, and Sara J. Meginnis. Based on demonstrated interest in equine medicine.

Dean I. A. and Iza Merchant Memorial Scholarship - $1500
Established in 1986 by Dr. I. A. Merchant family and friends. Dr. Merchant served as Dean of the College from 1952-1963. Based on scholastic competence, character and financial need.

Robert B. Mericle, D.V.M. Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $2000
Established in 1999 by Robert B. Mericle, D.V.M. Based on financial need, scholarship and potential for future leadership in veterinary medicine.

Robert A. Merrill Scholarship - Class of 1926 - $1500
Established in 2009 by Barbara Merrill in honor of her father, Dr. Robert A. Merrill, a graduate in the Class of 1926. Given to a student with an interest in large animal medicine.

Dr. L. Devon Miller Pathology Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2007 by Dr. James and Julie Delano in honor of Dr. L. Devon Miller who served not only as Dr. Delano’s employer but as a mentor in successful qualities of a veterinarian and in valuable life skills. Given to a student who has interest and aptitude in pathology and is actively involved in campus/college activities. Preference given to students who have or are currently working in the Veterinary Pathology Department.

Minard G. Mills Memorial Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $10,000
Established in 1995 by the estate of Isabel M. Mills to aid a student who is pursuing a degree in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Robert K. Morrison and E. A. Hewitt Endowed Physiology Scholarship - $1500
Established by Dr. Robert K. Morrison, Class of 1949, in memory of Dr. E. A. Hewitt. Based on a demonstrated interest in veterinary physiology, good character, preferably with financial need and recommendation of the Veterinary Physiology Faculty.

Walter and Lucille Murken Scholarship in the College of Veterinary Medicine - $1800
Established in 1999 by the estate of Walter and Lucille Murken. Award is given to students with demonstrated financial need and future leadership potential.

Miles and Helen Nay Scholarship - $4000
Established in 1997 by Helen Nay. Based on an interest in small animal medicine and surgery, financial need and merit, as well as a demonstrated dedication to and concern for the health and welfare of animals.

Newport Laboratories, Inc. Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $950
Established in 2012 by Newport Laboratories, Inc. Given to a student specializing in bovine (beef or dairy) health or swine health.

Dr. Yosiya Niyo Pathology Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2007 by Dr. James and Julie Delano in honor of Dr. Yosiya Niyo who served not only as Dr. Delano’s employer but as a mentor in successful qualities of a veterinarian and in valuable life skills. Given to a student who has or is currently working in the Veterinary Pathology Department. Based on scholastic aptitude and financial need.

Brian D. Oetjen, D.V.M. and Kathryn Burds Oetjen, D.V.M. Scholarship - $2500
Established in 1997 by friends and family of Brian D. Oetjen, D.V.M. Based on involvement with campus, community and/or professional activities.

Arthur M. and Margaret E. Orum Scholarship - $1000
Established in 1998 by Arthur M. and Margaret Orum.  Awarded to a student with a GPA of 2.50 or above with demonstrated financial need.

Dorman Edward Parker Scholarship - $1080
Established in 2007 by Donna Parker in memory of her husband, Dorman Edward Parker. Given to a student admitted to the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Allen C. Peterson Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $800
Established in 1998 by Agnes S. Peterson in memory of Dr. Allen C. Peterson. Based on financial need and at least a C average GPA.

Christian Petersen Memorial Scholarship - $2000
Established in 1981 in memory of Christian Petersen, sculptor of the Gentle Doctor statue. Based on financial need and academic achievement.

Robert E. and Doris R Philbrick Academic Excellence Scholarship - $10000
Established in 2008 by Robert E. and Doris R. Philbrick. Awarded to a VM-3 student with demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to a married student with children.

Kay S. Pierce Memorial Scholarship - $1000
Established in 1989 by members of the Veterinary Pathology Department and the Pierce family in memory of Kay S. Pierce, former supervisor of the Histopathology Laboratory. Based on need and personal integrity with preference to a student employed by the Veterinary Pathology Department.​

Dr. Harvey Price and Corinne Price Scholarship for the Study of Veterinary Medicine - $5000
Established in 1999 from a bequest of Dr. Harvey Price. Given to a veterinary student who has exhibited artistic talent and abilities regarding creation of anatomical charts, diagrams and drawings to aid in the teaching, study, research and practice of veterinary medicine.

F. K. Ramsey Scholarship for Academic Excellence - $1800
Established by Dr. and Mrs. F. K. Ramsey (ISU '46) in 1983. Based on outstanding leadership qualities, academic performance and contributions to the College of Veterinary Medicine and to students.

Krista L. Rankin Scholarship - $4500
Established by N. Lois and Graham M. Rankin to honor the memory of their daughter, Krista L. Rankin, who was a veterinary medicine student at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine at the time of her death.

Salsbury Scholarship - $2000
Established in 1985 by Dr. John G. Salsbury (ISU '40). The award shall be conferred on those senior students demonstrating superior scholarship, initiative, perseverance, potential for leadership and financial need.

Juana and Hjalmar Sandberg Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2013 by family and friends of Juana and Hjalmar Sandberg. Given to a student enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine professional program.

The SCAVMA Service Scholarship - $1000
Established in 1988 by the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA) at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine to recognize two students annually who have made significant contributions to SCAVMA.

The Charles J. Schena Prize - $50 SCAVMA Bookstore Gift Certificate
Established in 1982 by Mrs. Alice Black in acknowledgement and appreciation of former faculty member Dr. Schena's professional skills and his compassion for his patients.

Dr. O. J. Schrag Scholarship - $500
Established in 1989 in memory of Dr. Schrag (ISU '26). Awarded to a student with a high degree of integrity and good character with demonstrated financial need. Preference given to residents of South Dakota.

Dr. J. W. Sexton Memorial Fund Scholarship - $2500
Established in 2007 and based on demonstrated good character, financial need and academic success.

Jamie D. Sharp Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2014 by Jamie D. Sharp as a thank you to the College of Veterinary Medicine for the outstanding care provided to her pets.

Simmons Educational Fund Business Aptitude Award - $3000
Established in 2004 by Simmons & Associates. It is awarded to a third-year student who has outstanding business aptitude and recognizes the importance of the business side of private veterinary practice.

Dr. Margaret W. Sloss Memorial Scholarship - $4250
Established by Dr. and Mrs. John G. Salsbury (ISU '40) in 1981 in memory of Dr. Margaret W. Sloss (ISU '38). Awarded for outstanding ability and for contribution to the College of Veterinary Medicine and students. The award is presented to an undergraduate female student entering the fourth year.

Southwest Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Award - $500
Established in 1995 by the Southwest Iowa Veterinary Medical Association. This award is given to a third- or fourth-year student on the basis of potential and interest in food animal medicine.

Jerome and Laurine Speltz Scholarship - $2500
Established in 1998 by Jerome and Laurine Speltz. Given to a second-year student with demonstrated financial need.

Stange Award Scholarship for Academic Excellence in Veterinary Medicine - $3000
Established in 1998 by Dr. Melbourne B. Teigland. Based on demonstrated academic performance, financial need and future leadership potential.

The Dr. Paul F. Starch Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $5500
Established in 2001 by Carol and Douglas Buol in memory of Carol's father, Dr. Paul F. Starch (ISU '45). Open to students who demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, good professional conduct and character, and potential for future leadership.

Dr. James E. Stark Memorial Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2010 by Mrs. Stark in memory of her husband, Dr. James E. Stark (ISU '70). Given to an Iowa resident with interest in companion animal medicine.

Charles D. Steele Memorial Scholarship for Veterinary Medicine - $4000
Established by Geraldine S. Steele in 1998. Awarded to an Iowa resident with scholastic merit as the primary criteria. This award is renewed in the student’s VM3 year providing they maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00 and are in good standing.

Stein Veterinary Scholarship - $2250
Established in 2008 by James P. and Tamara J. Stein. Given to a student currently enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine and in good academic standing.

The Dr. Allison Sullivan Scholarship - $3000
This scholarship was established by Peggy Fisher, in honor of Dr. Allison Sullivan for the dedicated professional service Dr. Sullivan rendered to her pets and in memory of her cats, Kiddo and Emily. Given to a third- or fourth-year veterinary student who is in good academic standing, has an interest in pursuing companion animal medicine and surgery, and has clear financial need.

The Sullivan Family Pet Hospital Scholarship - $2000
This scholarship was established in 2002 by Dr. Allison Sullivan. It is awarded to a third- or fourth-year veterinary student who is an Iowa resident, is in good academic standing, has an interest in pursuing companion animal medicine and surgery, and has demonstrated financial need.

Dr. Steve Sulsberger Memorial Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2015 by Colleen Sulsberger in memory of her husband, Dr. Steve Sulsberger. Recipients must have demonstrated financial need with preference given to students from the Iowa counties of Monona, Woodbury or Ida and a second preference given to students from western Iowa.

The James A. Sweeney '64 Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $1000
Established in 1999 by Dr. James A. Sweeney. Based on financial need, academic achievement and leadership.

Lora and Russ Talbot ISU Alumni Association Cardinal and Gold College of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship - $2000 (VM3) $3000 (VM4)
Established in 2013 by Lora and Russ Talbot for third-year veterinary students, this scholarship is based on demonstrated financial need, graduation from an Iowa high school, and preference given to first-generation college students. It provides two-year scholarships for two students. Each year a new third-year student will be selected, and the scholarship will be automatically renewed for that student's fourth year with an increased award, provided minimum standards are maintained.

Russell G. and Lora L. Talbot Scholars in Veterinary Medicine - $8000
Established in 1998 by Russell G. and Lora L. Talbot, this scholarship program provides four-year scholarships to seven students each year based on a proven record of scholastic achievement, with a minimum GPA of 2.8, and demonstrated financial need. The awards are open to graduates of Iowa high schools with first preference given to students who graduated from a high school in Wright County. The awards are renewable, provided minimum standards are maintained. 

Dr. John and Kay Thomson SCAVMA Leadership Scholarship - $1500
This scholarship was established in 2014 by Dr. John U. and Mrs. Carolyn Kay Thomson. It is awarded to the president-elect of the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association. This scholarship includes a matching amount of funding for the president-elect to use for program development.

Uhlenhopp Scholarship in Public Policy - $2000
Established in 1999 by Dr. Eldon and Mrs. Patty Uhlenhopp to recognize one student for his/her accomplishments in informing and influencing public policy and to assist that student in gaining additional significant experience in this field. Based on scholarship, leadership, and interest as demonstrated by a written application.

Dr. Roger Van Prooien and Ruth Van Prooien Endowed Scholarship - $4000
Established in 2014 with proceeds from The Roger Van Prooien and Ruth Van Prooien Charitable Remainder Trust. Dr. Roger Van Prooien received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 1958.

Dr. Warren Verploeg Scholarship - $1000
This scholarship was established by Dr. Warren Verploeg in 2003. The recipient must have demonstrated financial or economic need, good character and must not be receiving any other tuition scholarships.

Veterinary Medicine Class of 1950 Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2002 to commemorate the camaraderie of the Class of 1950 and their gratitude for the profession and the education they received. Based on demonstrated financial need and good character.

Veterinary Medicine Class of 1953 Scholarship - $2000
Established by the Class of 1953. The recipient must have demonstrated financial or economic need, good character and must not be receiving any other tuition scholarships.

Veterinary Medicine Class of 1960 Scholarship - $1500
Established in 2016 to support students enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine with demonstrated financial need.

Veterinary Medicine Class of 1964 Concurrent Graduate Scholarship - $8000
Established in 2000. Awarded to a veterinary student concurrently enrolled in a graduate program. Based on leadership qualities and professionalism.

Veterinary Medicine Class of 1964 Scholarship - $8000
Established in 2000. Based on demonstrated leadership qualities, potential for success in veterinary medicine and financial need. Preference given to descendants of class of 1964 members.

Veterinary Medicine Class of 1987 Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2013 by the Veterinary Medicine Class of 1987. Based on demonstrated financial need and interest in small animal medicine. Interest rotates yearly between large animal and small animal focus.

Veterinary Spousal Support Scholarship - $1000
Established in 1999 by John U. and Carolyn K. Thomson in recognition of the unselfish spousal support provided by Annabelle Mabel Thomson, Carolyn Kay Thomson and Cynthia Helen Thomson for Drs. Vale U. Thomson, John U. Thomson and Daniel U. Thomson. Awarded to the spouse of a veterinary medicine student who is attending Iowa State University in a program other than the veterinary medicine professional curriculum.

Frank Walsh Memorial Scholarship - $750
Established in 1976 in memory of Dr. Frank Walsh (ISU '18), long-time College of Veterinary Medicine faculty member. Based on academic excellence and financial need with special emphasis on financial need.

Wilcke Family Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine - $1000
This scholarship was established in 2015 in honor of Dr. Ken Wilcke. This scholarship supports students interested in practicing clinical veterinary medicine. 

Wogahn Scholarship - $3000
Established in 1997 by Larry A. and Margaret A. Wogahn. Given to an Iowa resident. Based on merit and demonstrated financial need.

Dr. and Mrs. Robert M. Young Scholarship for Accomplishment in Vocal Music - $1000
Established in 1998 by Dr. and Mrs. Robert M. Young. Given to a veterinary medicine student in good standing who, through outstanding personal development as a singer and through vocal musical performance, has contributed to the betterment of the ISU community.

Gene and Muriel Zinn Scholarship - $1000
Established in 1998 by Gene and Muriel Zinn. Awarded to students with a primary interest in production animal medicine and based on financial need, leadership and academic potential.

Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship - $2000
Established in 2009 by Zoetis (formerly Pfizer Animal Health) in conjunction with the American Veterinary Medical Foundation. Awarded to a second- or third-year veterinary student based on academic excellence, professional interests, financial need, diversity, leadership and potential for contributions to the veterinary profession.
