American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology Senior Veterinary Student Award - $200, 2 years membership to AAVD, receipt of AAVD newsletter, Derm Dialogue, and reduced registration to the North American Veterinary Dermatology Forum
Established in 2015 by the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology. Awarded to the senior student who excels in clinical dermatology.

American Association of Feline Practitioners Outstanding Senior Award - 1.5-year membership in AAFP and a certificate
Established in 1978 by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP). Based on outstanding ability in feline medicine and surgery.

American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia Clinical Proficiency Student Award – 1-year subscription to Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia and a certificate
Established in 2008 by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA). Given to a fourth-year student exemplifying clinical proficiency in anesthesiology and pain management.

American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Certificate of Clinical Excellence - Certificate
Established by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) to recognizes and promote the value of clinical scientists. It is available to fourth-year veterinary students who demonstrate a sincere interest in veterinary internal medicine and outstanding didactic and clinical expertise.

American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology Award - 1-year subscription to Veterinary Ophthalmology and a certificate.
Awarded to a senior veterinary student with a demonstrated interest, skill and knowledge in clinical veterinary ophthalmology.

American College of Veterinary Pathologists Outstanding Achievement, Proficiency and Interest in Veterinary Pathology Award - Certificate Established by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists to recognize a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding achievement, proficiency and interest in veterinary pathology.

American College of Veterinary Radiology Senior Award – 1-year subscription to the journal, Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound, 1-year membership in one of the ACVR's specialty imaging societies, registration at an ACVR Scientific Conference and a certificate
Established in 1993 by the American College of Veterinary Radiology. Given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated proficiency in diagnostic and therapeutic radiology.

Award for Clinical Proficiency in Surgery – 1-year subscription to Veterinary Surgery and a certificate
Established in 1989 by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Based on academic and clinical proficiency in surgery.

Bayer Excellence in Communication Award (BECA) - $2500
Established by Bayer HealthCare, LLC - Animal Health Division in 2013. It is awarded to a graduating senior who is judged as demonstrating the strongest key communication skills during a client interview.

Daniel M. Betts Award for Excellence in Ophthalmology - $250 and a certificate
Established in 2016. Proficiency in veterinary ophthalmology.

R. W. Carithers Award - Gentle Doctor statuette and certificate
Established in 1995 by the clinical faculty in the small animal section of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. This award is intended to recognize high work ethic, leadership and the high quality of veterinary practice and patient care exemplified by Dr. Robert W. Carithers (Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Specialty of Neurology), a faculty member of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine from 1968 through 1994.

Presented to fourth-year students who demonstrated clinical excellence in multiple disciplines.

G. G. Graham Prize (Large Animal) - $1000
Established in 1935 by Dr. G. G. Graham (ISU '08). Based on scholarship, aptitude and general adaptability in clinical large animal medicine.

G. G. Graham Prize (Small Animal) - $1000
Established in 1935 by Dr. G. G. Graham (ISU '08). Based on scholarship, aptitude and general adaptability in clinical small animal medicine.

Margaret A. Haines Scholarship in Equine Medicine and Surgery - $3300
Established by Margaret A Haines to help students receive and better afford an education in equine veterinary medicine and surgery. Recipient should demonstrate financial need and a sincere interest in practicing equine medicine and surgery following graduation.

Harrison Exotic Companion Animal Award – Exotic collection on CD or $100 and a certificate
Awarded to a senior veterinary student with a demonstrated proficiency in clinical exotic animal medicine.

ISU Dermatology Excellence Award – Gentle Doctor statuette and a certificate
Proficiency and excellence in veterinary clinical dermatology.

IVMA Foundation Sustaining Involvement with the IVMA Scholarship - $2000
Established by the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Foundation. Given to a graduating senior planning to practice in Iowa who is active in organized veterinary medicine and the community.

IVMA Future Service Scholarship presented by Prevention Works from Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. - $2500
This scholarship is sponsored by a program in which Iowa-licensed veterinarians send in to Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc (BIVI) box tops from Pyramid® 5 and Pyramid® 5 + Presponse® SQ. In turn, BIVI donates $1 per 50 doses to fund the Future Service Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded to ISU CVM graduating seniors who intend to practice primarily bovine veterinary medicine in Iowa.

Merck Manual Award – Copy of Merck Manual 
Established in 1958. Awarded to senior students with a cumulative grade point (Fall Semester) of 3.50 or above.

Multimin USA Scholarship - $2500
Multimin teamed up with the Iowa Veterinary Medical Foundation and Iowa veterinarians to offer scholarships to graduating ISU-CVM seniors who plan on practicing large animal, primarily cattle veterinary medicine, in Iowa through its Multimin 90 Bovine Preventative Medicine Scholarship box top program.

Dr. Philip T. Pearson Award for Small Animal Surgery - $500 and certificate
The award was established in 1997 to honor former Dean Philip T. Pearson. The award recognizes the senior student who has shown proficiency in small animal surgery and/or an individual would most likely pursue a residency in small animal surgery.

Bob Rosenthall Senior Student Award for Proficiency in Clinical Oncology - 1-year membership in the Veterinary Cancer Society (VCS), complimentary registration to the VCS annual conference and a certificate

Established by the Veterinary Cancer Society (VCS). Awarded to a senior veterinary student with outstanding aptitude for, and competence in, the diagnosis, treatment and general care of companion animals affected by malignant disease. Demonstrated skill in both patient care and client communication are important selection criteria. 

Shelter Medicine Excellence Award - $250 and Gentle Doctor statuette
Established in 2005. Awarded to a senior student who has demonstrated an outstanding understanding of and commitment to shelter medicine.

Society for Theriogenology Proficiency in Theriogenology Award - Plaque
Sponsored by the Society for Theriogenology. Given to a senior student with demonstrated proficiency in clinical theriogenology.

Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association "Gentle Doctor" Award - $250 and Gentle Doctor statuette
Established in 1978 by the membership of the ISU Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association. Based on exemplification of the ideals of the veterinary medical profession. Nominated by peers.

Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association Scholarship Award - $250
Established in 1978 by the membership of the ISU Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association. Awarded to the senior student who has attained the highest scholastic average in the graduating class.

Zaffarano/Sato Poultry Award – Necktie and certificate
Demonstrated interest, collegiality, and aptitude in poultry medicine.

Zoetis Swine Proficiency Award - $500
Established by Zoetis (formerly Pfizer Animal Health) and awarded to a senior student with demonstrated proficiency and interest in swine medicine.

Zoetis-VECCS Award for Proficiency in Emergency and Critical Care - $500, stethoscope, a 2013 VECCS flash drive, complimentary membership in VECCS for 2014 and 2015 including Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and a certificate.
Established in 2003 by the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) to acknowledge a fourth-year student who has demonstrated interest and proficiency in the field of small animal emergency and critical care medicine.
