Discovering a new infectious disease: No guts, no glory
Dr. Gookin completed her DVM at the University of California at Davis, followed by advanced clinical training at North Carolina State University as an Intern in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery and as a Small Animal Internal Medicine Clinician Investigator. Following clinical training, Dr. Gookin completed a Ph.D. in Gastrointestinal Physiology. Dr. Gookin holds a named Distinguished Professorship in Veterinary Scholars Research Education and is a Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine at North Carolina State. Dr. Gookin is recognized for her expertise in gastroenterology with a special emphasis on intestinal epithelial pathobiology and infectious causes of diarrheal disease.
