Albert Osterhaus, PhD
Dr. Albert Osterhaus is one of the world’s leading virologists and his group was the first to identify human infection with the avian influenza strain H5N1. Osterhaus is a veterinarian with a PhD in virology from Utrecht University, Netherlands. He is the CEO of Artemis One Health Foundation. In addition, he is a professor of wildlife virology and virus discovery at the Utrecht University. He is also the director of the Center for Infection Medicine and Zoonoses Research at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany. His major accomplishments include the discovery of over 50 new viruses in humans and animals, influential work on the pathogenesis of major infections, and the development of innovative intervention strategies.
