Proposal Guidelines

Deadline 

To apply: A request for proposals will be sent to all CVM faculty via email in winter.

 

Eligibility

  1. The PI must be a faculty member or research scientist (P37 or higher) with a regular appointment at the College of Veterinary of Medicine. However, faculty members in other colleges, graduate students, postdocs, or any other qualified researchers are permitted and encouraged to serve as a Co-PI or collaborator.

  2. Although an individual may be an investigator on up to three proposals to this program, an individual can serve as PI on only one. Thus, the same individual may be a PI on one and a co-investigator on two proposals or a co-investigator on three and a PI on none.

  3. More than one new proposal can be submitted.

  4. An investigator cannot serve as PI on more than one award at any given time.

  5. The ILHAC funding is available for a maximum of two years.

Proposal Review 

Proposals are sorted by animal species and then ranked within each species prior to submitting to the ILHAC Board.  The ILHAC Board will then make the final decision on which proposals will be funded based on their current research priorities.

   5. Duration of the project (maximum of two years, at which time a new proposal must be written)
   6. Signatures of all investigators and respective Department Chair(s) (include date of signature)

Project Summary (200-300 word lay language summary of the project)

   1. Statement of the problem
   2. Hypothesis to be tested
   3. Experimental plan and expected results

Body of Proposal (maximum of 3 pages - single-spaced)

   1. Literature review statement of the problem/hypothesis
   2. Objectives
   3. Plan of work -- approach, methodologies and timetable
   4. Justification -- relevancy to livestock health problem & ILHAC research priorities
   5. Previous work of investigator(s) related to this proposal

References - up to one page, single-spaced

Biographical Sketch - one for each investigator, up to one page each

   1. Name
   2. Title
   3. Education
   4. Research & Professional experience - most significant/recent publications

Current and Pending Support for each investigator

   1. Project title
   2. Source
   3. Amount requested/awarded

Budget (no indirect costs)

   1. Maximum of one page
   2. Include budget justification on a separate page

 

Continuation Proposal Guidelines

(5-page maximum including title and all components)
