Mostafa Shelkamy, a graduate student at Iowa State’s CVM, earned the BS Pomeroy Student Presentation Award at the 2026 North Central Avian Disease Conference for his presentation, “Development and validation of differential TaqMan Real-Time PCR assays for improved diagnosis of infectious coryza.” The work addresses a key diagnostic challenge for an economically important poultry disease.
Mentored by Dr. Mohammed El‑Gazzar in VDPAM, Shelkamy’s research emphasizes rapid, accurate diagnostics with direct industry relevance. His recognition was part of a strong Iowa State showing at the conference, where eight Iowa State faculty members and graduate students presented research across viral and bacterial diseases, diagnostics, and epidemiology.
