Spotlight on Oncology
Clients making an appointment with the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center Oncology Service for medical or radiation oncology will be assisted by a team of boarded oncologists, residents, interns, registered technicians, radiation therapists, and fourth-year veterinary students. The LVMC Oncology Service is the only veterinary hospital in Iowa with board-certified oncologists who play a critical role in saving or extending the lives of countless companion animals.

Consultation Appointment
Each patient will have an initial consultation appointment where the medical history and current medications are reviewed, and a physical examination will be conducted. The recommended tests and treatment options will be discussed in a compassionate, supportive environment. A typical consultation appointment lasts from several hours to 1-2 days, depending on the tumor type, additional tests needed and treatment elected.

Services Provided
Oncology Services for dogs and cats are provided on-site at the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital. The service delivers comprehensive cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, and palliative care.

Pet Cancer Clinic
Phase 2 of the Pet Cancer Clinic is currently under construction with a Spring 2027 anticipated completion date. The $7 million project will provide a centralized, state-of-the-art facility for cancer treatments as well as enhanced clinical trial capabilities.

Pet owners can call 515-294-4900 to schedule an appointment with the LVMC oncology service. A referral is not required to make an appointment.
