Disease Background
Heaves is a common respiratory disease in equine patients. It can be characterized by chronic coughing, respiratory difficulty, and nasal discharge. Heaves is caused by mold or dust in hay, and once the respiratory system has been damaged heaves can only be managed, not cured.
