Appointments for the Ophthalmology Service are scheduled through the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center’s Small Animal Reception Desk at (515) 294-4900. Small Animal appointments (first-time and recheck) are available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with elective surgeries scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday. Eye certification appointments are scheduled on Thursday at 13:00 and Friday at 11:00 or in conjunction with other services (such as cardiology evaluations). Emergency cases can be referred by your regular primary care veterinarian directly to the ophthalmology service or can be seen by the ISU emergency service and receive an ophthalmology consultation. Routine equine appointments are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Emergency surgery, if indicated, can occur on the same day or after-hours. Please be sure to indicate what type of ophthalmic condition your pet has so that you are scheduled with the appropriate amount of time for your pet.
Frequently we work with your regular primary veterinarian to help determine the best therapeutic plan for your pet. If you have been working with a local veterinarian, please be sure to have your veterinarian send a copy of your records either with you, during your appointment, or email the records to vmc-services@iastate.edu prior to your appointment.
Because we are often faced with challenging ophthalmic conditions, please understand that some new appointments might require several hours to complete. We will do our best to make your appointment complete and efficient. Due to the complexity of certain ophthalmic conditions, some new appointments may require several hours to complete.
