Fall Orientation

Iowa State University

College of Veterinary Medicine

April 27, 2015

Dear Incoming First Year UNL PPVM Veterinary Students and ISU Class of 2019,

On behalf of the Iowa State University Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association, I would like to congratulate and welcome you to the College of Veterinary Medicine. The next four years will be incredibly challenging, but also incredibly rewarding.

The Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA) is an extremely active organization that represents veterinary students and their interests both locally and nationally. We strive to enhance your veterinary education through opportunities at Iowa State and beyond. I encourage you, as a student of the College of Veterinary Medicine, to become an active member of our SCAVMA chapter.

In an effort to prepare you for the beginning of your Veterinary education at Iowa State, SCAVMA and the college administration are co-sponsoring an orientation program that is required for first-year students.

Orientation will take place Wednesday, August 19th – Friday, August 21st, 2015 at the College of Veterinary Medicine.  UNL students are required to attend Thursday, August 20th and Friday, August 21st.  This program will introduce you to the College of Veterinary Medicine and will help you start your life as a veterinary student. We will take care of some “housekeeping” details including distribution of your laptop computers, locker assignments, mailboxes, and anatomy bone box buddies. Employees from the SCAVMA Bookstore will be available to distribute textbooks and supplies. This program will be packed with valuable information so put this mandatory event on your calendar today. Plus, we’ll have some fun along the way!

On Thursday evening there will be a picnic to allow you to mingle with classmates, students, and faculty. Parents, spouses, children, and significant others are encouraged to attend this picnic.

RSVP for Orientation along with the picnic and let us know if you need housing Thursday night after the picnic.

Congratulations again on being chosen as a member of the Class of 2019! We hope you are looking forward to a challenging and fun four years at Iowa State. If we can help you in any way or answer any questions before school begins, please feel free to contact us. A tentative agenda for Fall Orientation is on the Class of 2019 website. Enjoy the rest of the summer, and we look forward to meeting you all in the fall!
