Dr. Swanand Sathe, BVSc, MVSc, MS, DACT

Dr. Swanand Sathe graduated with honors from the Bombay Veterinary College (BVC), India in 2001. He then completed a three year master’s cum clinical fellowship in Internal Medicine following graduation, at BVC and went into private practice. Dr. Sathe worked at the Bombay race course as an equine sports medicine veterinarian as well as with the Poonawalla Stud Farms as a reproductive vet. He then accepted a three year residency position specializing in reproduction at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2008 and stayed an additional year at UIUC to teach and conduct research. Dr. Sathe has a second masters’ in reproductive endocrinology and is a boarded specialist with the American College of Theriogenologists. He is currently an assistant professor of Theriogenology at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University, where he specializes in reproduction of all domestic species including exotic hoof stock such as camelids. His main areas of interest are development of newer techniques for semen collection and cryopreservation for species such as camelids, and assisted advanced reproductive techniques such as laparoscopic insemination and embryo technologies.
