Dr. Ken Reimer (’65) was honored with the William P. Switzer Award in Veterinary Medicine on Aug. 14, at the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Research Day. The award, given annually, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to society through their achievements, or have made major contributions to the enhancement of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

AMES, Iowa - Dr. Charles O. Thoen’s lifelong work in public health was recognized at the annual convention of the American Veterinary Medical Association in Seattle, Washington.  The association awarded Dr. Thoen the 2009 Karl F. Meyer – James H. Steele Gold Head Cane Award.  The award recognizes achievements that have significantly advanced human health through the practice of veterinary epidemiology and public health.

Iowa State University Veterinary Medical Center is participating in a multicenter clinical trial evaluating a new medical therapy for symptom-free dogs with chronic valve disease. The aim of the new medication is to delay the onset of congestive heart failure in dogs with advanced but compensated chronic valve disease. Enrolled patients will be randomized to placebo or the new cardiac medication and followed for up to four years.
