    Four alumni of the College of Veterinary Medicine were honored this weekend, as part of the college’s Homecoming activities. Recipients of the Stange Award for Meritorious Service and the Switzer Award in Veterinary Medicine were recognized at an all-college breakfast at the Gateway Hotel, and later at the university awards ceremony at Scheman Building.

    In recognition of the final time that the Iowa State Cyclones and the Texas A&M Aggies will meet on the football field as conference rivals, Dr. Lisa Nolan, the Dr. Stephen G. Juelsgaard Dean of Veterinary Medicine at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Eleanor Green, the Carl B. King Dean of Veterinary Medicine at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, decided to take the rivalry from the gridiron to the grill with an exchange of specially packaged meats from their respective states.

  • 10/19/2011 Home Page Lied Foundation Trust Provides Major Gift to Small Animal Hospital Expansion, Renovation

    AMES, Iowa — A lead gift from a long-time Iowa State University supporter will help fund the ongoing major expansion and renovation project to the Small Animal Hospital in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

    The Lied Foundation Trust of Las Vegas, Nev., through its trustee, native Iowan Christina Hixson, has provided a $3 million gift to the project. The facility will be known as the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital, pending approval by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa.

Despite the challenges, many young veterinarians make significant contributions in their chosen fields. Pfizer Animal Health recognized the efforts of 10 high-achievers with a new, innovative program, 10 Under 40. Five of the 10 award winners are graduates of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

  • 07/25/2011 Home Page Kanthasamy Named Chair of Biomedical Sciences Department at Vet Med

    Dr. Anumantha G. Kanthasamy , Distinguished Professor and Lloyd Chair, has been named chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, effective July 22, 2011. He has served as associate chair of the department since July 2010. He replaces Dr. James Bloedel who returned to a faculty position earlier this summer.

  • 07/19/2011 Home Page Piet Recognized as Lloyd VMC's Honorary First Patient

    Today is opening day for the new client entry, waiting and reception areas that have been part of the renovation and expansion project. Soon after the doors opened, Piet, a nine-year old Golden Retriever, was recognized as the Honorary First Patient at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center's Small Animal Hospital.

  • 07/18/2011 Home Page Small Animal Hospital Opens Its New Doors

    The Dr. W. Eugene and Linda Lloyd Veterinary Medicine Center at Iowa State University will reach another construction milestone on Tuesday, July 19, when the new Small Animal Hospital entry will be operational. The entry, client reception and waiting areas will be the most visible and striking changes to the newly renovated areas of the hospital. These areas have been designed with a focus on client comfort and patient care. The reception area is much larger and provides a more comfortable working environment and will allow greater efficiency for client and patient processing.

    AMES, Iowa -- Dedication and a commitment to raising awareness about rabies have earned Iowa State University veterinary students the opportunity to host the 2011 Merial Rabies Symposium on Sept. 24. The symposium is part of the observance of World Rabies Day, held annually each September.
