Extension

Our Extension goal is to bring the benefits of veterinary medicine to society by promoting animal welfare and public health through the on-going education of veterinarians and the dissemination of animal health production, food safety and animal welfare information to veterinarians, livestock producers, consumers, and related clientele.

Our strength is bringing people together to reach solutions. We work closely with commodity organizations, professional associations, and governmental regulatory agencies. We cooperate with the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association in the development and delivery of continuing education and other programs.

Our major activities include: practitioner support on problem cases, educational programs for livestock and poultry producers and animal owners, specific livestock and poultry educational programs (in cooperation with other faculty), formal continuing educational programs for veterinarians, and special training sessions in response to animal health issues as they arise.

Veterinary Medicine Extension is a section of the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM) at Iowa State University. This section currently has four faculty members with species-specific expertise.
