The Equine Medicine Service provides elective (scheduled, non-emergent) care, emergency evaluation and critical care for horses.
Staff

- Internal Medicine residents: Drs. Katie Dersch and Eddie Romano
- The Equine Medicine Service also shares six rotating interns and two veterinary technicians with other Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center units.
Services Provided
Scheduled/elective care provided includes evaluation of and for the coughing horse, repeat or chronic colic, chronic diarrhea, gastroscopy for gastric ulcers, weight loss, neurological disease, endocrinopathies, myopathies, renal, cardiac concerns and dermatological issues.
Emergency (same day) evaluations include neonatal foals for failure to meet normal milestones, pneumonia, sepsis, orthopedic concerns, and adult horse with colic, colitis, diarrhea, fevers and febrile neurological disease.
Appointments
The Equine Medicine Service sees most patients the same week for non-emergent care. Emergencies cases are seen on the same day as they are admitted.
