Ames, Iowa – Darwin Reicks, DVM, received the Science with Practice Award from Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. The award, presented at the ISU James D. McKean Swine Disease Conference in Ames, Iowa, Nov. 3, recognizes exemplary integration of science and the art of veterinary practice to benefit swine productivity and welfare.
Reicks is owner of Reicks Veterinary Research & Consulting. He is a licensed veterinarian in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. For 23 years, he has worked with boar studs and swine semen analysis. Reicks operates a semen analysis laboratory, research farm, provides management services for 1800 boars, and also works extensively with filtration systems on over 120 farms.
“Dr. Reicks was one of the early innovators in air filtration for disease control and that technology is the a prominent biosecurity feature now both in boar studs and becoming very popular in breeding herds as well,” said Chris Rademacher, DVM, ISU swine extension veterinarian and chair of the conference committee. “He’s also one of the world’s foremost experts in boar stud and semen management.”
Reicks graduated from Iowa State University in Animal Science in 1990 and Veterinary Medicine in 1994.
