Dr. Michael Wannemuehler Named VMPM Chair

Dr. Michael J. Wannemuehler has been named Chair of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine effective March 4, 2009. He has been serving as interim chair and professor since April, 2008 when Dr. Lisa Nolan became Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.

Dr. Wannemuehler received his Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of Louisville and has been a faculty member and researcher in the college since 1983. He has served as assistant VMPM chair, and chaired and participated in numerous college and university committees, including current membership on the Cell and Hybridoma Facility Advisory Committee and serving as Professor-in-Charge and Chair of the Flow Cytometry Facility and Hybridoma Facility advisory committee.

Dean John Thomson said, “Dr. Wannemuehler’s credentials as an accomplished researcher and experienced administrator make him highly qualified for this position. His leadership is deeply appreciated and we look forward to working with him in his role as chair of the department.”
