Miller Re-appointed VMPM Chair

Cathy Miller in labDr. Cathy Miller has been re-appointed as the chair of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine (VMPM) for a second five-year term.

Since 2021, Miller has provided strong, visionary leadership to the department. She has developed new initiatives to enrich students’ learning experience and as a result, VMPM has become a department that is evaluated highly by students across undergraduate, graduate and DVM programs.

“Dr. Miller has led VMPM to become a powerhouse for research, and all early- and mid-career departmental faculty members are successful in securing major external grants,” said Dr. Dan Grooms, the Dr. Stephen G. Juelsgaard Dean of Veterinary Medicine. “She is also committed to promoting excellence in people, which has resulted in many awards, recognitions and career advancements for the department’s faculty, staff and students.”

A faculty member at Iowa State since 2006, Dr. Miller served as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School. She holds a PhD in molecular microbiology and immunology from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine.
