Research
Dr. Martin’s research has focused on the sexually transmitted bovine parasite, Tritrichomonas foetus, with specific projects aimed at vaccine development, in vitro drug screening, and animal model development. She anticipates pursuing projects that will contribute to improved clinical outcomes, including the development of new diagnostic assays and novel or repurposed treatments for drug resistant parasites.

Specialty Areas
Veterinary parasitology

Dr. Martin says…
“While challenging, I loved the material covered during the second year DVM curriculum at Iowa State. I found parasitology particularly interesting but didn’t imagine that there would be an opportunity to pursue specialty training in this area. I was lucky that Dr. (Matt) Brewer was looking for a graduate student at the beginning of my fourth year. Pursuing a PhD and board certification in veterinary parasitology sounded like a great opportunity and I am thankful I was open to the idea of a different career path than the one I had always imagined.”
