Dr. Jamie Kopper, associate professor of veterinary clinical sciences, has been named the recipient of the 2026 William O. Reece Award in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).

The Reece Award is given to veterinary faculty member who serves in the role of a faculty contact for veterinary students at Iowa State University. The CVM student body votes for a faculty member they believe embodies the qualities that Dr. Reece exemplified in his role as a student advisor.

Reece was a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Sciences where he was an advisor and mentor for entire CVM classes during this tenure at the college. He was known as a faculty member who was a sincere student advocate, who was compassionate, understanding and provided guidance through mentoring, and his ability to provide networking for veterinary students.

In the College of Veterinary Medicine, Kooper is the medical director for the Large Animal Hospital and the section leader for the Equine Internal Medicine team. She is board certified in both large animal internal medicine and emergency critical care. Her interests include improving survival of horses with gastrointestinal disease, emergency and critical care of large animal species, and clinical reasoning skills.

Kopper is an advisor to the CVM Honor Board and the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) chapter.
