Electronic Letters of Recommendation

Three electronic letters of evaluation are required; up to six may be submitted. Applicants are strongly encouraged to secure at least four letters in case an evaluator misses the deadline. Evaluators should know the applicant well and be able to speak to their personal qualities and experiences. In addition to completing the electronic form, evaluators are encouraged to provide written comments or upload a letter.

Appropriate evaluators include (but are not limited to): veterinarians, advisors, professors, and employers. At least one letter from a veterinarian is strongly recommended. Evaluations should support the applicant’s experiences and demonstrate commitment, maturity, work ethic, leadership, and communication skills. Evaluators may not be related to the applicant by blood or marriage; letters from family members will not be accepted. All letters must be submitted through the VMCAS ELOR system.

The Admissions committee may contact references directly if further information or clarification is needed.

CASPer Test

PLEASE NOTE: The CASPer will no longer be required for the 2026–27 admissions cycle. As a result, the academic review and application review will each account for 50% of the overall evaluation.

CASPer is a situational judgment test that assesses behavioral tendencies in tough situations, measuring elements of professionalism that are important to success in the DVM program and beyond. CASPer helps you demonstrate the variety of strengths you bring to veterinary school, complementing factors such as academic performance and prior experience. CASPer must be taken no later than September 16, 2025. Learn more about CASPer and reserve your test date.
