Anesthesiology

The Anesthesiology Service is dedicated to educating future veterinarians and residents in the discipline and practice of anesthesiology and providing superior clinical service to our patients and referring veterinarians. The Anesthesiology Service manages most of the patients that are anesthetized at the LVMC and provide dedicated attention to each patient before, during and after anesthesia. Our faculty members have all completed advanced training in veterinary anesthesiology and supervise the care provided by residents, technicians and senior veterinary students.

Cardiology

The Cardiology program is recognized as a leader in the diagnosis and treatment in animals and as a leader in cardiac research and clinical education. The clinical cardiology program at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center provides current diagnostic and treatment modalities for both small and large animal patients utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic technology. The board-certified cardiologists and residents constantly strive to offer the most recent treatment advances available.

Dentistry 

Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center have access to the only board certified veterinary dental specialist in the state of Iowa. Our state-of-the-art dentistry and oral surgery operatory can provide treatment for broken or fractured teeth, periodontal disease, root canal therapy, restorative procedures including treatment of caries (cavities), oronasal fistula repair (communication of the oral cavity and nasal cavity), non-invasive jaw fracture repair, and oncologic surgery of the oral cavity (tumor biopsy or resection).

Dermatology

The Dermatology service is staffed by trained professionals, board certified clinicians and highly qualified support staff to give companion animals the best possible care. The unit evaluates all types of skin conditions.

Diagnostic Imaging

The Diagnostic Imaging section specializes in radiology and diagnostic imaging for all species of animals, including companion, large and exotic animals. The service provides high quality, compassionate clinical are to patients though the use of medical imaging technology.

Equine

Equine Medicine provides the highest standards of care and diagnostic abilities to horses; educates veterinary students; equine residents and horse owners; and serves local, regional and national horse owners. Veterinary students are highly involved in the process of diagnosing, treating and caring for equine patients at the college. Under direct guidance of board-certified faculty and clinicians, future specialists are trained in equine medicine.

Internal Medicine

There are five ACVIM Board-certified specialists in the small animal internal medicine group. While all aspects of internal medicine are practiced, special skills and training are offered in the following areas: hematology, gastrointestinal disorders, endocrinology, nutrition, and obesity. Internal medicine also has an active and successful residency training program with a long history of success in having residents achieve board certified status. Certified technicians work closely with students, clients, and all cases and are also in charge of the non-resident canine and feline blood donor program.

Oncology

The Oncology services promotes an organized, comprehensive approach to management of cancer in animals. Cancer therapy is a rigorous undertaking, requiring multidisciplinary diagnostic and treatment capabilities. Various treatment options are available, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hypothermia.

Ophthalmology

The Ophthalmology unit provides the highest possible standard of care to veterinary patients (dogs, cats, horses, exotic animals and wildlife species) with eye diseases. In addition to providing a clinical service to patients and their owners and educating veterinary students, Ophthalmology services is actively involved in the advancement of knowledge in the field of ophthalmology with the goal of minimizing animal and human suffering and preserve vision by improving our understanding of the mechanisms and treatment of diseases like glaucoma, retinal degeneration and corneal disease.

Orthopedic Surgery

The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center offers a state-of-the-art orthopedic and neurosurgical service for small animals. Four ACVS board-certified surgeons and three surgical residents are available to provide expertise, diagnostics, and treatment recommendations. With outstanding support staff and advanced imaging including MRI, CT, digital radiography, and myelography, complicated orthopedic and neurologic conditions can be evaluated.

Reproduction

Reproductive Services (Theriogenology) cares for patients with reproductive problems or who are evaluated for breeding soundness. A broad range of services is provided for pre-breeding bitches, pregnant bitches, and those requiring more extensive diagnostic testing following unsuccessful attempts to conceive. Other reproductive services offered include artificial insemination, cryopreservation, as well as many other services.

Soft Tissue Surgery

The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center offers a state-of-the-art soft tissue surgical service for small animals. ACVS board-certified surgeons and surgical residents provide expertise, diagnostics and treatment recommendations for patients With outstanding support staff and advanced imaging including MRI, CT, digital radiography and fluoroscopy, comprehensive care combined with the latest surgical procedures can be performed.
