Sample Collection Guidelines
Ante mortem
-Individual milk samples from 5-10 acutely affected cows (approx. 10ml/sample, each quarter represented) for IAV PCR
-Optional: serum for antibody detection on the IAV NP ELISA (approx. 2-3ml/sample) and nasal swabs for IAV PCR from acutely affected cows
-Convalescent serum samples: 2-3 weeks after initial sample collection for the IAV NP ELISA
Post mortem
-Milk and mammary tissue (fresh and fixed) from each quarter
-Lymph nodes (supramammary, mesenteric, tracheobronchial)
-Fresh and fixed: Lung, trachea, heart, liver, kidney, spleen
Dairy producers are highly encouraged to contact their herd veterinarian to discuss this disease and measures that may reduce the risk to their operation. Form
1. Fill out the Ruminant Health Test Request Form via the ISU VDL Web Portal.

Shipping
1. Place the bags (with a webID written on the bags or printed form) in a cooler with a cold pack.
