Dr. Rachel Derscheid, associate professor of veterinary diagnostic and production animal medicine, has been appointed the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Equity Advisor.
Derscheid joined the Iowa State faculty in 2013 and has been the histology section leader in the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory since 2015. As a diagnostic pathologist, she oversees the coordination of over 1200 cases annually, including necropsy, test selection, histopathologic interpretation, and diagnostic test correlation.
In addition to these duties, Derscheid has also been an active participant in the college’s diversity, equity and inclusion activities. She has been a frequent moderator during the Iowa State Conference on Race and Ethnicity (ISCORE) and the College’s VM1 diversity and inclusion discussions. She has earned the Purdue Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate and has participated in CELT’s Diversity and Inclusion in the Classroom training.
Derscheid holds three degrees from Iowa State including a BS in animal science (2003), DVM (2007) and a PhD in veterinary pathology (2013). She is a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
