Iowa Livestock Health Advisory Council Seed Grant Program

State-appropriated monies are made available through the Iowa Livestock Health Advisory Council (ILHAC) to support research relating to livestock health. The Council establishes priorities for this research. Projects can be funded up to $25,000 per year for one or two years total.

To apply: A request for proposals will be released via email to all CVM faculty in early December, based on updated Research Priorities for the following year.  See Proposal Guidelines and past funded projects.  Proposal submission deadline is typically January.

Proposals will be reviewed, ranked, and critiqued by a subcommittee of the CVM Research Advisory Committee. These reviews and recommendations are then discussed with ILHAC during their winter board meeting; ILHAC members and advisory board determine the projects chosen for funding. Preliminary award information will be provided to PI's in the spring, with final awards being determined in June, once the State of Iowa budget is finalized.

ILHAC and ISU CVM Summer Scholar Research Program Joint Initiative

ILHAC-funded researchers will have the opportunity to involve a first- or second-year veterinary student in the research by indicating interest on the title page of the submitted proposal.  All submitted proposals indicating PI interest will be automatically entered into the Summer Scholar Research Program matching system as a potential project.  If the project is chosen for funding and if the project is successfully matched with a Summer Scholar student, the selected student will participate in their project from mid-May until mid-August 2025.  Funding to support the student's summer stipend will be provided by ILHAC in addition to the requested project budget.
