Endowment Provides Funding for Dental Equipment

A long-time endowment has provided funding for new dental equipment for the Equine Medicine and Surgery unit in the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center.

Funding from the Greatest Need Fund in Equine Medicine and Surgery was utilized to purchase tools for performing equine dental floats and medically necessary extractions. Included in the purchase is a small endoscope which Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center staff will use to visualize fractured teeth from inside of a horse's mouth. The camera will also assist veterinarians to determine the best approach for removing fractured teeth.

The Greatest Need Fund in Equine Medicine and Surgery was created through an endowment by Margaret Haines who regularly brought her horses for treatment at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center. Since its creation in 2012, the fund has helped the college address the highest priorities in equipment and technology upgrades, research grants, infrastructure upgrades and support, faculty recruitment and retention, and equine programming.
