Improving Biosecurity
Dr Chelsea Ruston (’18)
As a post-doctoral fellow with the Swine Medicine Education Center, Chelsea Ruston is focused on biosecurity. She has completed a study looking at the efficacy of ultraviolet-C light against Senecavirus A on different surface types community brought onto swine farms. “Understanding how to use it appropriately is important when decontaminating supplies that are being brought into farms to try and prevent a disease outbreak,” Ruston said. She is also evaluating a staged loading procedure during market loadouts to prevent contamination from livestock trailers to the barn.
